Painting a portrait, for me, is a journey into what people may call “soul” or “being” or “character”. The most difficult and interesting part is that I don’t stop until I grasp the character of the person I am painting. Sometimes I wonder if I am not deluding myself by trying to grasp my own character instead of the person that I am painting. Or maybe, just maybe without being aware of it I catch something that is present in all mankind, that which makes us “human”? Don’t be mistaken that grasping your character means taking a realistic picture of your face, for that, we have a camera or our mobile devices.
